Sara and Chris: Engagement

Engagement Session
Location: Rice Park and Harriet Island

Couples are always asking me how they should dress on engagement sessions... Sara and Chris are the perfect example of what to wear. I love the outfits they picked out- cream and beige always photograph so well. I always tell people to avoid wearing black, since it can look so dark and heavy in photographs. Sara took my advice, and found some very photogenic outfits! I love the lace dress because it adds texture and pattern without being overstated. It's always nice to layer for more options- the dress looks great alone or paired with a jacket. Nice shoes are also important, since they tie the whole look together.

Our session started off at Rice Park, where I loved how one of the park benches was so nicely framed by the trees. Then, we moved on to the James J. Hill Library, which is always a great back-drop for some clean, urban style portraits. Our last stop, Harriet Island, was a bit blustery, but Sara and Chris toughed out the chilly wind and we took some really great shots! I'm excited to photograph their wedding next June at the St. Paul College Club, one of my favorite venues!

Kaitlyn and Fernando

Venue: The Dakota Lodge in West St. Paul
Flowers: Beth Henjum, Family Friend
Hair & Make-Up: Blowdry Blowdry Bar
Dress: David's Bridal
Caterer: Gastro Truck
Cupcakes: Kristin Basinger, Family Friend

Congratulations Kaitlyn and Fernando! This wedding was so beautiful and detail oriented- everything from the hand-written chalk board signs to the alpaca cake toppers. I loved how a simple piece of fabric, draped on a tree, created such a romantic backdrop for the ceremony. The surrounding woods and nearby lake made for some gorgeous pictures, especially at sun-set. All of Kaitlyn and Fernando's relatives and friends were so kind and welcoming- I truly enjoyed the experience of photographing their wedding. Thank you for letting me be a part of your day!
