Emily and Nick

Engagement Session
Location: Beebe Lake in St. Michael, Minnesota

Emily and Nick's engagement session took place at Lake Beebe (where Nick proposed!). When pulling up to the park, I spotted a beautiful area of wild grasses and yellow flowers alongside the road. This area made for such gorgeous photos! I have been enjoying all the seasonal colors in my photographs- burgundy, red, brown, yellow, orange, chartreuse... So many rich and vibrant hues. Emily and Nick were awesome! Taking their pictures was so much fun, we were laughing the entire time. I'm so glad they picked the location that they did, because we had so many great areas to choose from: fields of grasses, woods, and lake-shore. Sometimes I feel that parks can be limiting, but this park had so much to work with! Every direction we turned was totally pictuesque. I love photographing out in the country where everything is wild and rustic. Congratulations on your engagement Emily and Nick! I look forward to photographing your wedding next July!

Sara and Chris: Engagement

Engagement Session
Location: Rice Park and Harriet Island

Couples are always asking me how they should dress on engagement sessions... Sara and Chris are the perfect example of what to wear. I love the outfits they picked out- cream and beige always photograph so well. I always tell people to avoid wearing black, since it can look so dark and heavy in photographs. Sara took my advice, and found some very photogenic outfits! I love the lace dress because it adds texture and pattern without being overstated. It's always nice to layer for more options- the dress looks great alone or paired with a jacket. Nice shoes are also important, since they tie the whole look together.

Our session started off at Rice Park, where I loved how one of the park benches was so nicely framed by the trees. Then, we moved on to the James J. Hill Library, which is always a great back-drop for some clean, urban style portraits. Our last stop, Harriet Island, was a bit blustery, but Sara and Chris toughed out the chilly wind and we took some really great shots! I'm excited to photograph their wedding next June at the St. Paul College Club, one of my favorite venues!
